HB 982 Passes

Posted February 11, 2010 by Tim Hugo | 4 Comments

Today, the House passed Delegate Tim Hugo’s legislation aimed at deterring robberies targeting Northern Virginians.

HB 982 increases penalties for precious metals dealers who violate the Precious Metals Dealer Law.  The Precious Metals Dealer Law requires records to be kept for each purchase, and also requires identification be presented at the time of sale.

HB 982 imposes strict penalties for precious metals dealers in an effort to eliminate the market for stolen goods.  The  bill will limit a robber’s ability to sell stolen items, reducing the incentive to commit the robbery in the first place.
